NCT Breastfeeding Peer Support

A number of members of our group have been trained by the NCT as part of their Breastfeeding Peer Support training. These are mums who have breastfed their own babies and we offer support for mums by mums. This service is proven to improve breastfeeding rates within a community. Three-quarters of British mums who stopped breastfeeding in the first 6 months (and 90% of those who stopped in the first 2 weeks) would have liked to have continued for longer.
Our group is located in relaxed, comfortable surroundings, to allow you to breastfeed amongst friends. We believe that by 'normalising' breastfeeding in places like cafes, more women will be encouraged to continue breastfeeding their babies for as long as they wish. Breastfeeding your baby is one of the most rewarding experiences of your life, and sometimes a few simple adjustments are all that is needed for mums who are having difficulties.
Your local Peer Supporters can help you with many breastfeeding issues such as; sore/cracked nipples, correct positioning and attachment, help with self care, information on blocked ducts/mastitis, expressing breastmilk, safe storage of breastmilk, and even down to things such as where to buy a decent (pretty) nursing bra!
In instances where your Peer Supporter is unable to assist, they have the skills and resources available to signpost you in the right direction, ensuring you get the help you need.
